FIVE (5) WAYS THAT LOVE DOES GOOD - How To Recognize Love - Part II

This is a continuation from the study, "How To Recognize Love." In the first part we considered the fact that true love is a principle which has a divine origin. We also discovered that true love does good and nothing but good. What is the practical demonstration of this goodness ? How can we recognize love when it is doing good ? According to the Bible, God is love and God is good. Since, Christ was the representative of God, we can look at His life for examples of this love and goodness.

5 Ways That Love Does Good

1. True love will look out for the present and eternal good of the soul .

Jesus wasn't just concerned about what was happening in a person's life at that moment. He labored to prepare them for a future eternal life in heaven too. See Mark 10:17-21

2. True love is a love which seeks first the honor of God and the salvation of souls. Those who have this love will not evade the truth to save themselves from the unpleasant results of plain speaking.

Jesus demonstrated this. He was always concerned about the honor of God and the salvation of souls. He did not evade speaking the truth to save Himself from the unpleasant results which would follow. See Luke 4:16-29 and Matthew 16:21-27

3. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour ROMANS 13:10

Jesus told a story that illustrated this and demonstrated it Himself. See Luke 10:30-37 and Luke 23:34

4. Love imparts to its possessor grace, propriety, and comeliness of deportment. It illuminates the countenance and subdues the voice; it refines and elevates the entire being.

Notice the testimony of the Bible describing Jesus as He grew up and after He had grown to manhood. See Luke 2:40,52, Luke 4:22 and John 1:14

5. The heart where love reigns will be guided to a gentle, courteous, compassionate course of conduct toward others, whether they suit our fancy or not, whether they respect us or treat us ill.

This is demonstrated repeatedly in the life of Christ. See Luke 14:1. Notice what Jesus called Judas after Judas betrayed Christ with a kiss...

And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come ? Matthew 26:50

Have you seen love like this or personally demonstrated love like this on a regular basis ? Is love really a principle ? The answer to these questions are addressed in the next part of our study when we consider the fact that there are only 2 types of love....
