If the mind is habitually given difficult tasks, it acquires efficiency and power.
The mind gradually adapts itself to the subjects upon which it is allowed to dwell.
The thoughts will be of the same character as the food provided for the mind.
Proverbs 1:5,24:5/Romans 8:5/Psalms 1:2/1 Timothy 4:15
If our thoughts and feelings are not brought into harmony with heaven while we are alive upon this earth, we could never be happy there nor could we be trusted there.
Let us cooperate with our heavenly Father to the end that others may be attracted to Christ and heaven too as they behold His character reflected through us.

Think right thoughts and you will perform right actions. Well, that's not quite an accurate statement. Paul writes in Romans 7:18 For I know that in me dwelleth no good thing; for to wll is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not. Romans 7:23 -But I see another law in my members warring against the laws of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members...

ReplyDeleteRight thoughts are the foundation of right actions. Very accurate indeed. Wrong actions are definitely the product of wrong thoughts.
All our actions good or bad have their source in the mind. One of the hardest things for us as human beings to learn and accept is the fact that are thoughts are not right.
Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts.
Our wrong thinking is at the root of our sins.
Sin is chiefly a mental disease.
In considering Paul's statement, it would be good to keep in mind the context of the verse. Paul is explaining the condition of the unconverted person who is in captivity to sin. They are not experiencing deliverance from the power of sin.
It is evident that Paul is speaking (in second person) about the the unconverted state because Paul was able to do good and Paul did not do evil.
Let's look at the rest of Paul's statement...
Romans 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then WITH THE MIND I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Right actions are the direct result of right thoughts. It is impossible to perform a right action otherwise.
The thoughts of the righteous are right: Proverbs 12:5

Alright T.K. Define right thoughts..Are right thoughts always synonymous with good...Can someone in your opinion that is not a Christian have right thoughts...Can a right action depend on a circumstance....
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous. Right thoughts are ALWAYS good thoughts because all good thoughts and right thoughts are inspired by God.
ReplyDeleteChrist is the source of every right impulse and every right thought.
A right thought is one which is in harmony with the principle of love and is a reflection of the mind of God. Right thoughts are in harmony with right principles - principles that are right according to God.
Anyone can have right thoughts so long as the Holy Spirit can have access to their minds.
Judas had right thoughts
Balaam had right thoughts
Nebuchadnezzar had right thoughts
Pilate had right thoughts
No one can have right thoughts without the influence of the Holy Spirit in this world because the human heart is desperately wicked apart from God.
Even wicked people may have right thoughts sometimes. But they do not cultivate, cherish and love right thoughts as the Christian does.
The thoughts of the Christian are increasingly and more consistently right as he or she continues to walk with Christ and reflect His image.
Right actions depend upon right principles and right principles must be stored in the mind and practiced in the life in order to govern the action regardless of circumstances.
Right actions must be right regardless of the circumstances.
Righteousness dependent upon circumstances is not righteousness at all.
I think it is called situation ethics.
